SIC pilot job at CAE

CAE has several openings for "Supporting Crew Member" roles. These are SIC seat support positions. Only 400 TT and 50 Multi to apply. See details here:

From the job description:

  • Commercial Pilot or Airline Transport Pilot certificate

  • Airplane Multi-Engine land

  • Instrument rating with 50 hours of multi-engine and instrument experience

  • 400 hours Total Time (100 hours of turbine, preferred)

  • Available for a minimum of 35 events in a 12-month period

  • Must live near facility

  • Must be able to commit 10-15 days of work a month

  • Scheduling is minimum of 5 hours at a time and could be scheduled 24/7

I spoke with someone at both Flight Safety and CAE about these roles. The time can be logged and gives great exposure to CRM and great networking. These are particularly good if the facility has smaller aircraft (KingAir / Light Jets) since a lower time pilot could potentially get experience in an aircraft they would be qualified for.

At FlightSafety, the job openings are called "SIC pilots" for reference. At CAE they are called "Supporting Crew Members"

One person I spoke with said that its not uncommon for the Chief Pilots of 135 operations to be the "lone pilot" in need of seat support, since they typically don't want to fly in a sim with someone who works for them (as a former Chief Pilot I can attest that embarassing oneself in front of your line pilots is never a fun experience :) So great potential for connecting with decision-makers.
